There Are Styles for Everyone
Handcrafted furniture can’t be pigeonholed into just one category. This industry has progressed over the centuries alongside our culture and now even the most modern styles are being made by American craftsmen. Here at Heirloom Amish Furniture, we sell these styles and many more!
Modern
Modern-style furniture follows the philosophy of function over form. The simplicity of this style is characterized by straight edges, sleek silhouettes, glossy finishes, solid colors, and very little embellishment.
Mid-Century
This style shares many qualities with the Modern furniture style, with a few distinguishing features: rounded corners, gentle curves, and natural wood tones in mid-toned or darker colors. This style also embraces minimalism and saw a resurgence in the past decade.
Traditional
Traditional furniture is a rich and historical style that’s been around since the 18th century. Each piece is heavily ornamented, elegant, and typically made in deep and warm colors. Some subcategories that have come from this style include French Country, British Colonial, and Quenne Anne.
Mission
Typically, Mission furniture is built from Oak and paired with leather, copper, and iron hardware It’s a style known for its sturdy structure, ninety-degree corners, paneling, and mostly exposed joints. These design techniques set off the grain of the wood, giving it the signature “Mission” look.
Shaker
Shaker furniture is a clean, smooth, and gentle style in appearance that relies heavily on the natural appearance of the wood it’s built from. However, its embrace of the natural does not make it look rough like rustic or farmhouse furniture. This style was a pioneer in the pursuit of simplicity. The furniture legs are often rounded or slightly tapered outward. Traditionally, it’s constructed from maple wood but is now found in a wide variety of wood types.
Rustic and Farmhouse
Rustic furniture is known for its heavy grain textures, and even live edge slabs that really create a “straight from the woods” appearance. Farmhouse furniture takes on a few more cosmetic changes, while still embracing signs of distressing. These styles focus on comfort and the beauty of “imperfections.” Both styles embrace neutral colors, typically with rustic leaning toward darker tones and farmhouse gravitating towards lighter colors and whites.
